newest thrift store finds

My son and I had some time on our hands so I convinced him that taking a trip to our local Re-Store would be a great idea. Just like most boys, shopping is not exactly his favorite pastime so it did take some convincing. I got him out there though and we both had a ball going through all the toys on offer. He kept himself occupied for the entire time I shopped around. That's pretty close to a miracle so I was very thankful. One of the best things we found is a girls rolling suitcase that has a dollhouse inside! The pictures I took aren't great but you can get an idea of what it looks like. The front also has a place that opens up so there is a balcony and front porch area. The jumble of stuff in the front of the first picture is a bunch of the items we discovered inside. The second picture shows some of those things inside the dollhouse including a couple of little people. Now I will have occupants for my dollhouse once it is fit to move into. The best part of it all, and I am sorry if this inspires jealousy in any of you, it cost only $2!! It was actually marked at $4 but it just so happened to be half off all toys day, so I scored big. Isn't it great when a bunch of second hand toys can make you really happy? I think so.
Here's to being easily pleased. :)

Enjoying my part of the province on bike

Good afternoon everyone,
My husband and I decided to get out and explore a bit yesterday. Our son was hanging out with his Poppa so we hit the road. We live in a such a beautiful part of Ontario that when the opportunity comes up we just have to take advantage. My husband has wanted to do this for a long time and so finally got his motorcycle licence last summer. I have been surprised at how much we all enjoy it. We live in the Hills of the Headwaters area of Ontario and so we wandered the country roads and meandered through Bellfountain. I can't help but be impressed with our home whenever I see the incredible nature all around us. The weather sometimes gets me down, but we really are lucky in some ways.

giveaway

Check out http://lessapathymorecake.blogspot.com/. She is having a contest to celebrate her 28th birthday. She has a cute blog and is giving away a whole pack of stuff. I have to love her blog title too.. Less apathy + more cake. Maybe that is the real solution to all the worlds problems! Chocolate cake, vanilla cake, carrot cake, strawberry shortcake .... sorry I drifted off there for a minute. Have a look at her site to find out more about her birthday giveaway. As for me, I think I need to track down a slice of cake for myself!

My Frugal Home

I don't know about everyone else out there, including my faithful readers, but I am kind of addicted to frugal living. I like the word frugal. It sounds so much more chic than cheap or thrifty. Mind you there is nothing wrong with being either of those in the right situation. I haven't gone overboard, yet. I don't think so at least. My husband might disagree but fortunately he humours me. Since my little spot in the blogosphere is dedicated not only to dollhouse miniatures but to being frugal I thought I would share some of the things that I have done in my own home.

One of my favorite ideas combines an old spice rack I couldn't use anymore and the bathroom. An odd combination I know but it works. I hung the spice rack up on the wall in the bathroom and use it to store my nail polishes on one rack and my perfumes on the other. This way everything is organized instead of being stuffed into a drawer and I didn't have to throw out a spice rack. Win win, right?

I have used a multi-tiered plant stand from church sale in the bedroom as a place to store my folded sweaters and pants. I use glass spaghetti sauce jars as flower vases. My old plastic medicine bottles serve as containers for seeds I harvest from my garden to reuse next year. My last idea for the day is an old one but a good one. I have all over my walls, framed magazine pictures, wallpaper scraps, and even menus from special restaurants. My son's artwork too of course. Basically if I end up with an object I can't use anymore I rack my brain to think of a new way to use it. Otherwise it winds up in the donation pile or the garbage.

I love getting new and unique ideas to reuse or re purpose things. If anyone out there reading this has some creative thrifty thoughts please pass them on to me. I will use them in a future post. If we put our heads together who knows what we can come up with. :)

Here's to all my thrifty companions out there,

perfect day

If you asked me to describe my perfect day it would probably look a lot like the one I spent yesterday. First of all, I woke up a bit late, played on the computer and drank some coffee. Then I went out and spent a couple of hours shopping at some of my favorite places, including Michael's, which is a craft store. When I got home, it was such a beautiful, warm afternoon I spent a good bit of time enjoying our new pool which has finally warmed up enough to be comfortable. I love the water and I have really been looking forward to swimming this summer in our own backyard. After my mid afternoon dip, I got out a good book I am in the middle of and read while soaking up some much needed sunshine. It really is like medicine to feel the warmth on your skin. Later on I had a nice dinner with my boys, enjoyed an after dinner coffee with my husband then we finished the night off with good movie I found at the library. Have I mentioned before that I love that place? It is like an archaeological dig full of treasure. So, it was a day of leisure, shopping, swimming, reading, sun and family time. I laid in bed last night thinking the day was pretty close to heaven to me.

I wish you all a perfect day tomorrow.

Beardy

Hey everyone.... my son finally got his long held wish of getting a bearded dragon. My husband dug out the aquarium we had been given a couple of years ago and set it up. The two of them read books, watched videos, and did lots of research on these lizards. Me, I figured what's one more creature in my house. :) My husband found Beardy in an add from someone who's dragon had babies. I have to admit he is pretty cute. Apparently they like to be handled too so my son has been enjoying 'cuddling' with his new pet while watching tv. Right now, the sun lamp we have on timer in Beardy's tank has just turned off so he has crawled in to his favorite corner to fall asleep. I wish it were that easy for us. Instead I will just pour myself another cup of coffee and read a good book. Actually that sounds pretty darn good too. Have a great night all,

etsy store

Hello all,

I decided to bite the bullet and open an Etsy shop for myself. It seems to be the way to go these days so I took the plunge. I am glad I did. I set it up with actual products yesterday, and today I received my first sale of not one but two rugs! A big thanks goes out to July for being my first customer! I don't have all that much out yet, but there is lots more coming. Take a look if you get a chance and let me know what you think.

Otherwise I have been super busy enjoying the sun and the pool with my boys! We had a blast just hanging out together and soaking up some much needed sunshine.

Take care everyone,

canadian miniatures store

Good evening everyone,

For cannucks like me, sometimes finding things I want to buy online is a bit of a struggle. It is getting better all the time since more Canadian stores are going online, and more American stores are making it easier to ship to us. So you can see why I was happy to have stumbled on to a Canadian dollhouse store site today. If your in Canada as well go on and check this site out. http://grandpasdollhouse.com/index.html The prices are all over the board but they have some very affordable things. The bike I may have to just break down and get. Its too cool, and only $3. Another site to take a look at ishttp://miniature.ca/store/index.php . They have a very cute sewing kit available that is giving me great ideas. My mind is whirling thinking of how I can create something similar.
Well, I am off to sit on the couch and watch a movie with my husband. One of those important things in life. Just kicking back with the one you love! Speaking of which, I love you all for stopping by. Have a great night,

I've been tagged!

Hello all,

First of all I want to welcome, welcome, welcome to 2 new members. First a big hello to Moti from ooak minis. I also want to say hi to Folk artist K. You can find her at DOLLHOUSE Miniatures and HITTY ART by VIRGINIA FOLK ARTIST K ARTHUR and PUNCH NEEDLE in mininature PENNY RUG. I am so glad you both stopped by.

Second, I have been tagged for the first time! Yay me. The challenge is that I am to post the fourth photo from the Fourth file on my computer, tell everyone a bit about it, then pass the challenge on to four other bloggers. The picture I ended up on is one I recently scanned on to my computer of my mother, her brother and her sister when they were kids. It looks to me like my uncle is trying not to smile!
So.. to tag the others:

Have a great night everyone,

A little more of what I have been working on :)    This Joy sign is metallic, it just doesn't show well in the picture ...
